The town's folk were happy. They were celebrating a good harvest year. A big pig was being cooked and some kids were running in and out the inn. And he could not care less. Before reaching the inn, the weather changed abruptly and he did not have other option but to come to the nearest town to seek shelter in the closest inn. He was hoping for the rumor of those ruins to be true; he would not be in that town if it were not for those merchants and their story. Ruins, an enormous and unexplored mountain and some kind of monster guarding it; He has heard a lot of stories like this one but just a few have shown him something of real interest. For some people, these discoveries could not mean less but for him, they have represented a better understanding of the indescribable.

The people who came near him looked at him with curiosity. He was wearing a dark coat and he was covering his face with a hood that made him look like one of those strange wanderers that could only bring trouble. In some places, he was known just as the traveler and he liked this name. He did not think about his real name much. It was something he would prefer to fall into the abyss of the forgotten. He was not eating anything. His pipe and the thick smoke were his only company and he did not need more. Through the nearest window, he could see one of the giant worlds that decorated the view from Yharnm; the continent, the only place he has known all his life; a place he has never felt as his home. Those giant worlds were unknown for almost everyone and that triggered the traveler's curiosity. He started to hunt every story and every legend the moment he realized that he did not belong to the world he was condemned to inhabit. He just felt different.

The traveler decided to come to this far away town because of two merchants who were too afraid to work on this land again. They traveled as far as they could because that is the only thing they could think of after what they saw in the ruins they found. In their story, the merchants were looking for a place far away from the know routes in which some bandits were attacking any person who dared to cross without any form of defense on them. While they were looking for a place were to start a campfire they heard a roar. At first, they thought that it was a wolf but it when they heard more of those guttural and thunderous sounds, they knew it was something else that was producing them. Something they did not hear in their entire lives. Even though the sound was horrid and filled them with frightful feelings and dark thoughts, they felt the necessity to keep walking, as if the sound were calling them. After a few minutes going through a dark wood, they found themselves at the slope of a mountain. The sky did not show any kind of light apart from what one of the giant worlds in the sky unpinned. The roaring had stopped but know they felt as if they were being watched. They were in the middle of deepest darkness and they already have lost their way. The two travelers stopped walking when they glimpsed a small sound; apparently, something was crawling towards them but they could not see anything. Suddenly, the giant world in the sky started to shine as if it was on fire. All around them was visible but they did not recognize anything of what they saw: there were no trees. They could not describe exactly what was surrounding them. Where it supposed to be trees now the only thing they could see was dark rocks; darker than any other material they have seen in their lives. But as strong as they saw these rocks, they also looked like if they were moving and changing their form. As these rocks were moving they two merchants saw something else moving behind them. They could not describe what it was but the only thing the knew was that is was massive. And it was then when they heard the roar again but this time it was deafening. The monstrous sound entered on their head and their bodies and they felt as if the sound was going to make them explode. They both started screaming and then everything went dark. When they woke up, they were in the middle of the woods again. The mountain was far from the place they were and they did not know how long they were unconscious. The only thing they could think of was the immense horror they felt and that was it. This was not the first time the traveler heard a story like this one. A story about the unknown and beyond description horrors. All of those stories have had one aspect in common: the closest giant world acted as if it was a living being.

The town's folk were not worried about any indescribable horror or ancient ruin. They did not think about the giants on the sky and what may lay beyond them. They focused their lives on the harvest season and that was it. Something that they could understand; something that they could control. They did not ask for more. They were not like him.The traveler noticed that the snowstorm that pushed him to look for some shelter has appeased and he decided to continue his journey. He walked among the people that were enjoying their drinkings and meals. He did not show it but he knew that as he was crossing the people looked at him with contempt. He knew that any person who came to that town with the idea of uncovering something out of the ordinary will only represent a menace.

As soon as he left the inn he noticed that the weather had completely changed. Although it was cold and the snow covered everything, the sky was clear. The traveler started walking to the town's main gate. As soon as he reached it he turned back and saw the town from afar; they did not really know what was happening next to them and he wondered: What would happen if everything in what they believed from their lives suddenly changed? The traveler decided not to keep digging on those thoughts and continue walking away from the gate.

  1. whaaat? So is he going to investigate whatever is beyond that story? Wow you know what happen with people that do not mind their own business? Hahaha hope he won’t die. Or maybe The man is just leaving like nothing happened?? That would be wise…

I am into videogames, but this is not my jam tbh. However, I find the idea of creating an original story from gaming cool, but I think I’ve already told u that so nvm. I like the beginning of the story, though. It is really descriptive that it is possible to place every detail in my head.
Anyway, I was wondering why you chose this type of game, is it because its word is more open than other games? Well that’s my assumption correct me if I am wrong. I should have asked this in the planning lol.

  2. I'm really hooked with the traveler, all the mystery around the lands beyond the town's folk is catching. The details and the traveler's thoughts makes me think about some Tolkien works... Keep writing!

  3. Hey,

Yeah, I still don't know how the traveler is going to survive this one. xD

Well, I've always had the idea of writing form your adventures in a RPG. I like the way you can interact with the world but sometimes, the stories told there are just not as fullfilling as the ones in your head so, most of the times, I try to create my own story as I play and that's why the RPGs are so great; because you can create your own story. The only "bad" part about this is that your are obliged to create that story in a concrete world. So I thought "What if I take the story I've just created in the game and set it in my own world?"

There is one concept called "emerging gameplay" in which unnexpected situations may happen in a game that allows them. For example: The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild or The Witcher 3 are great examples of this and I try to take those games as tools to create my story.

Planning

First, I wanted to create something from one of my many adventures playing role-playing games. With these games, I can create my own story based on a world and characters already settled but, what if I take my own actions and experiences in these games and put it in my own story? My own world? So, this is one of the many adventures I've lived in this media and I'm gonna start my tale based on this: Apart from this "inspirational" material, I've been working on the world building of the fantasy world in which I want my story to be based: Structure of my story: Beggining: There is no clear explanation of the origin of the main character. He is a traveler arriving at one of the main cities of Yharnm. Middle: It is explained the origin of the worlds and what may lie beyond. End: It is not defined yet. Media: I'm planning to draw on Youtube to give a visual idea of how some events of the story are going to deve
